Icons are sacred images created in prayer for prayer. They are used in both communal worship and private devotion. As a sacred art, traditional icons are created with natural materials as the materials themselves are understood to have theological significance. Carole follows the Byzantine "floating" technique taught by the Prosopon School of Iconology , utilizing only natural materials (clay, gold, egg tempera) and adhering to the canons instituted by the church.
Carole receives commissions for icons from both individuals and communities. She is also available to speak about the history, theology and practice of icon writing. If you are interested in commissioning an icon or inviting Carole to speak, please contact her by filling out the Contact page.
