Carole Baker Artist

Born in Nashville, TN and raised in a family of artists, Carole Baker grew up immersed in the creative life. When it came time for college, however, she opted to study religion rather than art in order to address some of the issues and inconsistencies she witnessed as a Christian in the "Bible Belt."

Upon completing her B.A. in Religious Studies, Carole's professors prompted her to "keep going."  She followed their advice and moved to North Carolina where she studied and received her Master of Theological Studies from Duke Divinity School.  It was during this time Carole affirmed what had always seemed implicitly true, i.e., art can be another medium for doing theology.

In Fall 2011 Carole began pursuing her doctorate in theology at Duke. She continues to study traditional iconography with the Prosopon School of Iconology and exhibits her contemporary work (painting and installation) in both religious and secular settings.
